Terms of use

The terms this site is published under. The short version: the figures here are reference data gathered carefully, not engineering advice for your address. Last updated 4 September 2026.

Using the site

Shed Index is free to read. By using it you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use the site.

You may read, print and link to these pages freely. You may not scrape the site wholesale, republish its tables as your own, or use it in a way that interferes with its operation or with other people's use of it.

The snow load figures

These figures are a starting point, not a structural assessment. Do not use this site as the sole basis for deciding whether a structure is safe to erect, occupy or leave standing through a winter.

Ground snow load is one input among several. What a particular shed will actually bear at your address also depends on drifting, roof pitch and shape, sliding and unbalanced loads, exposure, elevation, how the building is anchored and assembled, and local code amendments that a county-level table does not capture. Two addresses in the same county can differ.

Every figure names its source and the date it was checked, so you can go and read the original. Please do, for anything that matters. Your manufacturer and your local building department are the authorities on your specific case; this site is not.

The product information

Specifications are read from manufacturers' own listings and carry the date they were read. Manufacturers revise listings, and a page can be out of date before we notice. Confirm anything that decides a purchase with the seller before you buy.

Where a manufacturer publishes no snow load rating, the page says so rather than estimating one. An absent rating means the figure is unknown. It does not mean the figure is low, and it does not mean it is adequate.

We do not publish prices. Any price you see is on the retailer's site and is between you and them.

Affiliate links and advertising

Shed Index is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We earn from qualifying purchases. This costs you nothing and does not change which products are listed or what is said about them.

Pages also carry advertising served by Google. Ads are selected automatically; their appearance here is not an endorsement, and we do not vet the advertisers. See the privacy policy for what advertising sets on your device and how to opt out of personalisation.

Links to other sites

Following a link off this site takes you somewhere we do not control and are not responsible for. Their terms and privacy policies apply there.

Accounts

If you hold an account, keep your password to yourself and tell us if you believe it has been compromised. We may suspend or remove an account that is being used to abuse the site or other users.

No warranty, and the limit of our liability

The site is provided as is. We take real care with the data — sources are named, check dates are honest, and unknown figures are left blank rather than filled in — but we do not warrant that everything here is accurate, complete or current.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from reliance on this site, including damage to property or loss arising from a structure that failed. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes

These terms may change; the date at the top moves when they do. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised terms.
